A Catholic Elementary PreK3–8th Grade School in the Heart of Boston.
At St. John School, we are proud of our rigorous education and small class sizes. Our intentional commitment to a trajectory of personalized learning in PreK-8 supports children in having a foundation that sets them up for success. By utilizing naturally challenging curriculums, including Wit and Wisdom, Eureka Math, Heggerty Curriculum (PreK), and Fundations Curriculum, to name a few, students are prepared for the high expectations at each grade level, and our teachers help them meet those expectations.
We know that reading is critical to a good education, and strongly believe that if you’re a great reader, you’re a great learner. To that end, we have a reading specialist who can work with children who may require additional support to strengthen their reading skills throughout their education at St. John School. While we are not equipped to provide in-depth specialized education, we are committed to working with every child to enhance their skills to ensure success at St. John School and beyond.
In addition to a rigorous academic program, we recognize that in order for all children to thrive, it is important to fuel all parts of their brains and bodies. Our curriculum includes specials, some of which are unique to St. John School: Italian, Music, Drama, Technology, Art, and Gym. Whether a class is part of our academic core or our specials, students at St. John are being prepared for the world that lies ahead.
All students from PreK through Grade Eight participate in caring for and tending to our Tower Garden, located on the main floor. Bringing to life the true meaning of living the Gospel, our students learn, grow, and give the fruits of their labor to those in need at ABCD, the foodbank in Downtown Crossing, and our local parishes.
Following St. John's example, students grow to understand that the food we cultivate and eat nourishes our souls and bodies. This hands-on learning outside the classroom Integrates with the math, science, and religion studied in class.
Relationships are important in your student’s education—relationships between students and teachers, teachers and parents, teachers and teachers, and other faculty and staff. Core to our classical Christian education is open communication between everyone in a student’s environment so that they are fully supported by their classroom teachers, all faculty and staff, and their family at home.
Students use Google Classroom to communicate with teachers and keep their schoolwork organized. Every Friday, teachers in every grade send home newsletters. In Middle school, this includes test dates and other important deadlines. For Elementary School, the newsletter includes information about what the child is learning, and suggestions and talking points for conversation at home to reinforce the learning.
